In June 2024, 黑料福利社 broke ground on the Destin Resiliency and Rebuild Projects, an initiative designed to enhance the system’s reliability and capacity for Florida Power & Light (FPL). The job involved rerouting and upgrading Destin鈥檚 primary transmission line to increase ampacity and reinforce the grid in one of the Gulf region鈥檚 most critical corridors.

The scope included installing new large concrete poles and realigning the transmission path through a densely developed, high-traffic area. Given the job鈥檚 visibility and location, Irby implemented strategic night shifts and coordinated closely with local stakeholders, including business owners, to minimize disruptions.听

To avoid costly substation shutdowns, Irby partnered with MG Dyess, a Quanta Services sister company, to perform energized work. This approach eliminated the need for outages and ensured continuous power delivery throughout the construction period.

Extensive pre-construction planning with FPL and early outreach to the local community helped streamline execution. Night construction allowed the crews to stay on schedule without impacting daytime traffic.

Completed on time and under budget, with zero safety incidents, this job delivered significant system upgrades and addressed a long-standing infrastructure need, improving overall grid resiliency for FPL customers.

This project included construction of 8.3 miles of 115kV/69kV line on the Mosaic Mine property in order to reroute an existing line around a future mine site.

The scope of work included setting 67 concrete poles and pulling 6.4 miles of 230kV, with 1.9 miles of 69kV underbuild. Irby also removed 33 structures and 4.5 miles of wire as part of the re-route.

We partnered with fellow Quanta sister company MG Dyess to build a permanent road throughout the right of way and to mat wetlands.

Because road construction was underway at the same time as the T-line work, coordination between the two companies on site was essential to its success. In addition to weekly calls with MG Dyess, the ability to complete the project efficiently required communication and coordination at the field level. Irby and MG Dyess superintendents were key players in the project鈥檚 ultimate success.

Thanks to this highly effective collaborative relationship, the work was completed on time and on budget.

Irby is working in collaboration with several Quanta operating units to complete approximately 105 miles of JDEC transmission line that have been damaged from previous storms, the worst of which was Hurricane Laura in August of 2020.

The existing system is a combination of 69kV and 138kV lines that run through two Louisiana parishes. Irby鈥檚 work will upgrade these lines to a 230kV system to support future growth in these communities.

The on site team is jacking structures at the point of receipt that will then be delivered assembled to the right-of-way. There are more than 1,300 structures to complete.

Crews are also conducting wire stringing operations (both transmission and distribution under build), erecting structures in all marsh areas, and assisting with underground work at three water crossings.

The two biggest challenges on this project have been what crews have unofficially (but appropriately) labeled the two 鈥渂ig Ms鈥� of Louisiana鈥� mud and mosquitoes.

, an company, serves more than 543,000 customers in Northwest and Central Louisiana, Northeast Texas and the Texas Panhandle, and Western Arkansas. In October 2021, 黑料福利社 began a 25-mile rebuild of the Patterson to S. Nashville 138kV transmission line for SWEPCO.听

Located in the southwest corner of Arkansas, the project includes more than 240 structures that meander through marshy territory on Arkansas Heritage Commission property, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers land, and numerous wetland areas.听

This 138kV single circuit transmission project consists of three eight-mile sections and has planned outages so the Irby crew can perform pole work on de-energized lines. The first section is 8.8 miles long and consists of 79 structures. The second section is 8.3 miles with the replacement of 83 structures, and the final section is roughly 8.1 miles with 80 structures. The final line is scheduled to be in-service on November 30, 2023.听

To assist with overall access of the area, Irby has contracted with affiliate company to clear obstacles and tackle the challenging wetland conditions. For the more than 30 Irby crew members who are wrecking out and rebuilding the existing transmission line, MG Dyess is laying thousands of wood mats to access work areas.听

, another affiliate company, is providing support services by drilling and pouring foundations as well as drilling and setting bases for the direct embed structures.听

From creating entry and overcoming barriers to setting foundations and poles, these coordinated efforts allow Irby to work efficiently and effectively. Irby is exceeding expectations on this job and is committed to the absolute performance required to safely deliver this project on time and within budget.听

provides electricity to more than 209,000 customers in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. On Sunday, August 29, 2021, Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 150 mph. The New Orleans area suffered damage causing outages for approximately 895,000 customers.

As a result of Hurricane Ida, a 475-foot lattice transmission tower in Avondale, a suburb on the west bank of the Mississippi River, was damaged and fell with conductor lines landing in the river. The tower on the Harahan side of the river remained intact with the conductor lines attached. This was a primary circuit for New Orleans and power was rerouted to restore electricity for customers until the damage could be repaired.

Entergy New Orleans contracted with Irby to manage the project from beginning to end. The removal of the destroyed transmission tower鈥檚 lines in the Mississippi River was a national priority. Efforts included coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, Levee District, Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish EOC, the Governor鈥檚 Office of Homeland Security and other agencies to ensure safety and minimize risks.听 听

To safely remove the wire from the tower, clearing the downed conductor lines was completed by through a series of controlled detonations. Explosives were attached to the conductor lines on both sides of the tower and demoed in sections.听

Once the lines and old towers were cleared away, , LLC, completed pile driving work and Irby sister company installed anchor bolted piers to resist uplift forces that might otherwise cause the new tower and lines to be extracted from the ground.

With foundations in place, Irby, , and erected two 475-foot towers to supersede the old ones. With only 6 hours a day permitted by authorities to shut down major river traffic, Irby has begun stringing the lines using barges across the 3,700-foot span of the Mississippi. Once that is complete, energizing the lines is the last step in bringing this major transmission system back to life.

The New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) is the largest clean energy project in New England. The Clean Energy Corridor connects 1,200 megawatts of renewable hydropower from Canada to the New England power grid.

In total, the project consists of 145 miles of new transmission line that will tie into the existing transmission system in Lewiston, ME. Additional project components include upgrading 50 miles of existing alternating current transmission lines, construction of a new converter station, a new substation, and multiple system upgrades.

When the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) project was announced, Irby and Cianbro teamed up to pursue their part in the $950 million that will bring clean energy to 1.2 million households. Leveraging their previous success for Central Maine Power, and staying committed to the win, the Cianbro-Irby joint venture worked for three years on pricing and negotiations. In April 2020, the Cianbro-Irby team was awarded a 145-mile transmission line project from Avangrid. Cianbro-Irby鈥檚 scope of work includes all aspects of the DC line construction including foundations, pole setting, framing, and wire stringing operations.

is one of the largest electric power holding companies in the United States, providing electricity to 7.7 million retail customers in six states. In December 2018, Duke Energy contracted Irby to perform the removal and reconstruction of 34 miles of 230kV transmission line from Port St. Joe to Callaway in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

The work scope was completed ahead of schedule in March 2019 with no injuries or environmental incidents with the assistance of several key subcontractors including , , , , ROW Masters, , and .

The (“LCRA”) is a non-profit public utility providing wholesale power to over a million people in Texas. In December 2016, LCRA contracted Irby to construct 33.4 miles of 138kV transmission line from Lampasas to San Saba in central Texas.

The project was executed in consideration of a condensed LCRA schedule and habitat-specific environmental permitting requirements. The Irby scope included steel structures, poles, 22 drilled pier foundations, and a railroad and major highway crossing.

With assistance from fellow subsidiary company 听(Irby is also a Quanta Services subsidiary (PWR:NYSE)), the project was successfully delivered to LCRA in January 2018.

In November 2017, LCRA contracted Irby to upgrade a 13.9 mile 69kV transmission line between its Harwood and Waelder substations to 138kV capable. The Irby scope included the replacement of 112 structures to complete the conductor upgrade and the installation of OPGW shield wire from Waelder to Flatonia substations.

The Irby upgrades (including foundations, tangents, and dead ends) were performed on energized lines with support from and (Both Irby and Probst are companies (PWR:NYSE)). Completed to schedule in May 2018, the project was delivered to budget and with zero lost time incidents.

(a parent company of ) is a wholesale electricity supplier with a portfolio of facilities totaling more than 21,000MW of electric generating capacity in the United States and Canada. In January 2018, NextEra contracted Irby to construct 68.3 miles of 500kV transmission line (single circuit, triple bundled) between Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties (Corbett and Sugar substations to Quarry substation) in support of a critical tie-in for the NextEra’s Florida grid.

The Irby scope includes site survey, clearing, construction of access roads and pads, pier foundations and anchor pile installation, and setting steel structure and deadends with approximately 15 miles of the construction right of way transversing protected Everglade canal waterways.

In observance of the projects environmental requirements Irby crews adapted novel technical solutions including the use of barges, concrete pump lines, and amphibious equipment.
