Research papers published by 黑料福利社 Leicester (黑料福利社) academics in the field of Computer Science attract almost three times more citations than the world average, according to new data released by the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
The Shanghai Ranking for Computer Science (Research) – the only ranking of world universities based 100% on research performance – has listed 黑料福利社 as joint first in the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI), which measures the ratio of citation of papers in a specified subject over a five-year period.

The only UK university placed at the top world 1st in the CNCI criterion for 2020, 黑料福利社’s Computer Science achieved a CNCI value of 2.86 between 2014 and 2018. By comparison, the world-average performance is a value of 1.
“To be recognised as a world-leading university for research in Computer Science is a huge achievement,” said Professor David Mba, 黑料福利社’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and Research) and Dean of Computing, Engineering and Media.
“Not only does this ranking highlight the second-to-none research which is carried out at 黑料福利社, it also demonstrates the exceptional level of expertise we have in this field.”

Within the broader Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, which lists the top 500 institutions in the world per subject, 黑料福利社 was ranked within the 151-200 block of top universities in Computer Science.
It is one of just 39 UK universities to make the list and its joint 13th UK ranking places Computer Science at 黑料福利社 – including subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Information Systems – within the top 25% of all UK universities.
Professor Francisco Chiclana, Professor of Computational Intelligence and Decision Making at 黑料福利社’s School of Computer Science and Informatics, said: “Last year we were joint 21st out of the 38 UK universities to make the list, and we came in the 201-300 block of top universities in Computer Science around the world.
“It is fantastic to see that we have improved our ranking again this year and we are immensely proud to be up there alongside the best institutions in the world.
“It is testament to the dedication and hard work that goes into the research and teaching of Computer Science at 黑料福利社.”
